Co-founder Paola Tubaro and research associate Myriam Raymond, presented ongoing DiPLab researches at a seminar at the GRANEM lab of the University of Angers (France). The seminar, titled “The Work Behind AI: Platforms and Globalization”, took place at the Faculty of Law, Economy, and Management as part of the Federated Reseach Structure “Confluences”, on Nov. 21, 2024.
At the seminar, Paola Tubaro uncovered the behind-the-scenes world of microwork, a crucial but often invisible component of AI systems. Drawing from DiPLab’s interdisciplinary research, she analyzed how digital platforms distribute microtasks globally, while intensifying precarity, inequalities, and discrimination among workers. The seminar also featured Myriam Raymond’s ongoing research on Egyptian microworkers, examining their working conditions and how their digital identity influences corporate sourcing decisions.
